The National Mall

Washington D.C.

DSM Environmental Services, Inc. recently requested Chroma Design to assist them in preparing a solid waste recycling program for the National Mall in Washington D.C. The project included inventorying existing conditions including trash receptacles, solid waste pickup and disposal, and waste analysis to determine the potential quantity of recycled material. The team prepared a master plan with recommendations for a National Mall recycling program that will be straightforward to implement and possibly fit into the National Park Service’s maintenance responsibilities. The master plan includes recommendations for the design of recycling receptacles that will include a custom blue lid and a unique Washington D.C. logo. A typical layout plan was also prepared to indicate the most efficient location for recycling containers and a recommended reduction in the number of waste receptacles.
