Veteran’s Pedestrian Bridge

Pueblo, CO

Chroma Design led the design effort for a new veteran’s pedestrian bridge in Pueblo, Colorado. Working closely with the project engineers, Matrix Design Group, eight bridge design concepts were prepared for client review. The design selection was driven by aesthetics but functionality and budget were also critical considerations. The selected design is sleek and contemporary with a cast-in-place concrete box girder span supported by inverted taper triangular piers. Veteran’s services are celebrated with shield-mounted seals on the bridge handrails and veteran’s names are displayed on granite-clad pyramidal monuments that are illuminated with glass skylight centers. Vertical elements include the US and Colorado state flags as well as twelve light columns, graduated in height, that symbolize the American tradition of placing a “candle in the window” for a family member who is away from home.
