Avenue G Corridor

Avenue G Corridor, Council Bluffs, Iowa

Chroma Design prepared the urban streetscape design to connect the Avenue G bridge with the surrounding streets and neighborhoods. The design concept features a continuous trail and walkway network as well as a bold planting pattern that complements the new bridge.

The design is intended to create a tie that connects the local neighborhoods to the avenue while inviting pedestrians to utilize the bridge crossing. Trees and shrubs are arranged in long curving bands that lead from the low adjacent neighborhoods up to the full height of the bridge. A new pocket park is formed on a long and narrow parcel of land that separates homes from busy traffic. The most prominent street corners have also been enhanced with brick paving and signature monuments. Construction will be completed in 2009.
