Motorists traveling Interstate 80 across the western border of Iowa are now being treated to the view of four elegant and colossal–sized, mixed metal sculptures mounted high on plinths above the abutment corners of the new South 24th Street bridge over the interstate in Council Bluffs. The sculptures have been designed and constructed by artist Albert Paley. His vision is to celebrate the way that the American mid-west’s culture has engaged the land and how agricultural mechanization has transformed the native landscape. Chroma Design’s team worked with Paley Studios and the Iowa West Foundation to site the sculptures on attractive structural plinths that fit into the architecture of the existing bridge and to develop a streetscape environment that will dramatically present the artwork.
